The Chevrolet Corvette is a line of American two-door, two-seater sports cars manufactured and marketed by General Motors under the Chevrolet marque since 1953.

The very first Corvette ever built was a General Motors Motorama show car first exhibited at the Waldorf Astoria in January of 1953. It was an instant hit and the first production Corvette was built on June 30, 1953 in Flint, Michigan and only 300 were built-virtually by hand and all on a pilot line.

The Corvette Stingray Racer is a sports racing car and concept car that debuted in 1959. The car was developed in the styling studios at General Motors (GM) at the behest of Bill Mitchell, GM Vice President of styling. The design was based on a sketch by designer Pete Brock, and was further developed by Larry Shinoda.

Harley Earl, the head of General Motors design, was behind the development of the 1953 Corvette. In 1951, Earl had been thinking seriously about developing a low-priced, sports car. At the start of the process, he assembled some great talent to make GM's two-seater sports car a dream come true.
